Since 01.03.2009 the name "HRZ" no longer refers to the wireless networks of the university. Now the ITMC provides new wireless networks, which are listed below.

The ITMC of the TU Dortmund offers wireless network (WLAN) in many areas of the university, which provides access to the intranet of the university and to the World Wide Web.
The ITMC provides the following networks for students and employees of the university:
ITMC-WPA2: The WLAN "ITMC-WPA2" is the standard access for all members of the university. It can be used with every semi up-to-date notebook, netbooks as well as many PDA's and other mobile devices.
ITMC-VPN: The wireless network "ITMC-VPN" replaces the WLAN "HRZ WAVE-LAN". It should only be used if your mobile device cannot handle WPA2 security furthermore. "ITMC-VPN" is only usable with the Cisco VPN client (which could also be used to connect to the intranet of the university, even if you are at home).
eduroam: ("Education Roaming") This wireless network offers worldwide internet access for students and employees of participating universities and organisations, by using the unique username and password of his / her own organisation. The DFN association, also a member of eduroam, offers an additional roaming service for Germany called DFNRoaming. Both roaming services are supplied by the wireless network "eduroam" at the TU Dortmund. The only requirement is the participation in eduroam or DFNRoaming by the guest's home organisation.ITMC-GAST: The WLAN "ITMC-GAST" is intended for those guests of the university, which cannot use "eduroam". This wireless connection is unsecured and all guests, who want to use this service, need clearance in a special database. More information about the guest-account can be found at our Service Desk.

If you encounter any problems concerning the WLAN, do not hesitate to contact the Service Desk of the ITMC.
The ITMC is not the only operator of wireless networks at the TU Dortmund. Some facilities have their own networks which are compatible to the networks of the ITMC. If you want to establish your own wireless network, you have to get in contact first with the ITMC.
